If you grew up eating boxed hamburger helper like I did, you have to give this a try! Not only is this homemade version free of preservatives and other ingredients I try to avoid, I think it tastes way better! Let me know what you think.

One Pot Hamburger Helper

~ serves 5 adults

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 tablespoons ketchup

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon or yellow mustard

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 ½ teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt, I like the one from @redmondrealsalt

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • 3 ½ cups water

  • 1 ½ cup elbow noodles

  • 1 ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup sour cream or greek yogurt

Instructions:

  1. Heat a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef. As the beef cooks, break it up into small pieces. Add the diced onion after a few minutes. Cook until no longer pink and drain any access fat.

  2. Add the ketchup, mustard, and seasonings. Stir to combine.

  3. Add the water and noodles. Stir everything together and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to low. Cook for 20 minutes or until pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

  4. Add the cheese and sour cream and stir until well incorporated.

  5. Serve and enjoy!
